Learning with Kinderly together

I use the kinderly together platform in my setting it helps capture the learning journey through observations, wow moments and daily diaries. when you log in with your password you can see what your little one's been getting up to for the day. We can work together to promote the holistic development in your child by helping them to improve their physical gross and fine motor skills, social skills, cognitive, linguistic and emotional development.

Hygge in the early years

Thank you for taking the time to learn more about my setting. Hygge is the Danish approach to life that focuses on having a happier and more simple life. Using elements of warmth, coziness and nature to make the most of every day of the year. My practice is also guided by the curriculum for Wales, early childhood play, learning and care, developmental pathways 0 to 3. Throughout the year each theme invites children to explore the season through play, discovery and time in nature.

Example of themes:

To discover how our native wildlife live their lives though out the year.

To use natures treasures, pinecones, daises, beach pebble for sorting, counting and creative play.

To explore color mixing, painting, children will have the freedom to get creative without a adults interruption or direction.

To enjoy, tasting fruits and vegetables while learning where food comes from.

To experiment with light, shadow and reflection, using torches, mirrors and natural sunlight.

Through nature based play children will develop:

Communication and language through conversation, story telling and exploration.

Physical development through climbing, digging and outdoor movement.

Personal, social and emotional development through teamwork and caring for living things.

Literacy through seasonal stories, rhymes and mark making.

Mathematics through sorting, counting and pattern making.

Understanding the world through observing changes, weather, and life cycles.

The aim is to encourage children to appreciate and value our living environment; to develop their understanding of the living world and the impact they have on it. I will be encouraging children to learn new skills, have fun and develop self-confidence by spending time in a garden – tending plants and growing their own food. Most children enjoy being outdoors and love digging in the soil, getting dirty, creating things and watching plants grow.

Research has shown that gardening helps children develop many skills such as:

  • Responsibility – caring for plants.

  • Understanding – learning about cause-and-effect i.e.. Plants die without water.

  • Self-confidence – achieving goals and enjoying food they have grown.

  • Love of nature – a chance to learn about the outdoor environment in a safe and pleasant place.

  • Reasoning and discovery – learning about plants, animals, weather, the environment etc.

  • Nutrition – learning to enjoy and appreciate where fresh food comes from.

I’m fortunate enough to have a garden, I see this as an asset to my setting and aim to have the children participate in many of the activities required to produce fruit, flowers and vegetables.

Freedom to explore outside, parks, nature walks, messy play

Jade's baby owl’s child minding is situated in Pembroke dock and opened in 2024. I have an open plan dining/living room with a cosy play area with a variety of stimulating toys to spark and engage interest. Whether your little one enjoys getting lost in stories, dressing up, building dens, painting, driving cars around or discovering dinosaurs there is something for everyone. When enjoying our meals we'll be sitting around the dining table. the children will be able to play in an area of the garden that is geared towards them where I will encourage the children to learn about how to support the natural environment, grow their own veg, enjoy the flowers that we will grow for the bees and learn about the frogs in the pond. My bathroom is upstairs so when the children need to use the facilities, I will escort them. In quiet time there are sleep mats/soft area with bean bags and a travel cot for the children to use. When you come to drop off your child there is on road parking.

Settling In

I understand how difficult it is for parents to leave their child with a childminder and return to work. I will therefore work with you to ensure your child is settled and that you are happy with the care that I provide.

Prior to children joining my setting I like to organise settling in sessions for the parents and child. This gives you the opportunity to provide me with lots of information about your child, their likes and dislikes, routines, favourite activities, how to comfort them if they become upset and how they have reacted when left before. It gives me the opportunity to start to build a relationship with you and your child and to understand both your needs and wishes.

After this visit I would normally encourage a short visit where your child comes alone. I am happy for you to stay until you feel your child is settled. Some children do take longer than others to settle and some settle quickly and then become distressed a few weeks into the placement. I will work with you to support your child through this transitional period and make it as easy as possible. It is important that you and your child are relaxed and happy in my home and with the care I provide.

Settling in sessions

settling in sessions are an important part of your child’s transition into my care. I offer.

1 x 1 hour with you.

1 x 1 hour on their own.

1 x 2 hour on their own.

free of charge. If you would like to book further short settling in sessions, please let me know. They will be charged at the normal hourly rate, billed in advance.

during which time the notice period will not be required if either party wishes to end the arrangement.
